A thigh lift (thighplasty) is a surgical procedure that can remove stretched skin to create a more desirable leg contour. Using advanced surgical techniques, Dr Perron can help patients can feel confident again by helping them achieve tighter, smoother thighs.

This surgery is suitable for men and women of varying ages, with surgery possible on both the inner thigh and outer thigh. In addition, Liposuction (Suction Assisted Lipectomy) can be added to this procedure if excess, stubborn fat is present. There is some downtime associated with this procedure, which patients should be prepared for.

Thigh lift (thighplasty) Surgery

Before the Procedure

Before arranging a thigh lift (thighplasty), it is necessary for all patients to attend a personal consultation with Dr Perron. This is going to allow you to find out more about the procedure and whether it is right for you. In addition, Dr Perron will perform an examination, which includes assessing skin laxity and the best incisions to use on the thighs.

It is recommended that a patient’s weight be stable and consistent for around one year before committing to surgery. Of course, this is because weight gain will alter the results of a thigh lift (thighplasty). That is why it is best to be at your ideal weight before you consider this surgery, so you can enjoy permanent results.

The Surgery

As a thigh lift (thighplasty) is a surgical procedure, patients will require a general anaesthetic. To complete the procedure, Dr Perron will make incisions along the thigh in order to adjust the skin. For the inner thigh, an incision will be made near the pubic area as well as at the top of the thigh. The skin will then be pulled upwards to make the area firmer and any excess skin will be removed. There are different incision techniques that can be used, including ones that extend down the inner leg and ones that wraps around the back of the thigh. Dr Perron will discuss this in more detail during your personal consultation. This surgery can take around two hours to complete. This procedure can be combined with liposuction (Suction Assisted Lipectomy) if the patient is also concerned about stubborn pockets of fat in this area.

Thigh lift (thighplasty) Recovery

Some downtime can be expected after surgery. Patients will be expected to stay overnight in the hospital after surgery and most people will take around two to three weeks off work to recover at home. Patients will have to wear a compression garment after surgery. This will help with the swelling and help enhance the shape of the thighs too. Patients will feel some discomfort right after surgery, with pain relief as an option to feel more relaxed.

Strenuous exercise should also be avoided for around six weeks after a thigh lift (thighplasty). Patients will have to take time away from driving right after surgery, which means that somebody should be able to get you home after the procedure. In addition, light activities should be slowly introduced back into your daily routine. Patients can enjoy the results of their thigh lift (thighplasty) after a few months.

Risks

As a thigh lift (thighplasty) is a surgical procedure, there are some risks that patients should be aware of. This can include an adverse reaction to a general anaesthetic, as well as pain and swelling. Other risks that are associated with this procedure include:

  • Poor wound healing
  • Bleeding

  • Skin discolouration
  • Scarring
  • numbness

Dr Perron will take you through all of the potential risks during your consultation and explain what will be done to minimise them.

Please be advised that all procedures carry risks, therefore, we encourage patients to consult with their regular GP and Qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon before considering surgery. Find more information here.

Thigh lift (thighplasty) FAQs

Is there much scarring after a thigh lift (thighplasty)?

Many patients worry that there will be scarring after surgery. However, Dr Perron is skilled and experienced and will do his best to make sure that any scarring is kept to a minimum. One way that this is achieved is by placing the incision where it can be hidden by underwear or swimwear. However, in some instances, scarring will need to extend down the leg. This scar usually fades over time and becomes invisible enough for it to not be seen from the front. Dr Perron will also take you through some scar management techniques that can decrease visibility.

What are realistic expectations?

It is important for patients to have realistic expectations about the results that can be achieved with a thigh lift (thighplasty). This can include having an improved shape with less excess skin, as well as firmer and smoother thighs. Men and women will normally choose to have a thigh lift (thighplasty) after significant weight loss if they are left with loose and sagging skin. It is essential that men and women who are thinking about having a thigh lift (thighplasty) be at their ideal weight for the best results. Following a thorough consultation, Dr Perron can give you a better idea of what you can expect in terms of results.

How much does thigh lift (thighplasty) surgery cost?

Every patient has slightly different requirements, which means any costs will be different too. Scheduling a consultation with Dr Perron is the only way to receive an accurate estimate of what your thigh lift (thighplasty) will cost. The approximate cost for a Thigh Lift (thighplasty) is $7,000 – $8,800.
