Brow Lift

Brow Lift

Overview

Facial features change as we age and sometimes this can be in ways that we wished they didn’t! This can include the brow area developing sagging skin, which can impair vision and make men and women feel self-conscious. Sagging skin can happen with the loss of facial volume as we get older. In addition, the forehead can develop lines and creases that can make you appear older than you really are. This is caused by decreased collagen production, which happens from the mid-20s and onwards. Over time, frown lines can also appear, which are the vertical creases that form between the eyebrows after persistent downward movement of the eyebrows.

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that Dr Perron offers to minimise sagging skin over the brow area and diminish creases that develop over time on the forehead, as well as frown lines that make people appear older. Through making incisions in the hairline, Dr Perron will be able to reposition a sagging brow, which means that any patients that are suffering from vision impairment will see a great improvement. A brow lift is suitable for men and women and it can achieve a more alert, refreshed and youthful appearance. There is some downtime associated with a brow lift and Dr Perron will let patients know everything about the process beforehand.

Surgery

Before the Procedure

Before brow lift surgery, patients are required to attend a personal consultation with Dr Perron. This is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the procedure and whether it is the right one for you. You can ask Dr Perron questions and the eyebrows and forehead will be assessed to see the degree of elevation that is needed and that will produce natural results. Patients should be prepared to take time off work moving forward with brow lift surgery. Patients should also be in good health and be non-smokers before a brow lift.

Operation

A brow lift involves patients receiving a general anaesthetic. This will make sure that patients are comfortable and that the procedure is pain-free. Dr Perron will make incisions that will mean the skin can be corrected and moved. The incisions will be made within the hairline for the best results and this will also mean that scarring is minimal and hidden. The skin will be positioned up the way, which will minimise any folds and creases in the forehead, as well as lift the eyebrows to a more desirable position. Any excess skin will be removed before the patient receives sutures. Brow lift surgery normally takes around one to two hours to complete, depending on the individual patient and their needs

Recovery

Some downtime will be required for a brow lift. After all, it is a surgical procedure and the area will need time to adjust and heal. It is recommended that patients take around 10 days to two weeks off work for rest and recovery. Any strenuous activities should be avoided for around six weeks.

It is normal to experience some swelling and discomfort around the eyebrows and forehead after a brow lift. In addition, the area may feel tight and itchy, while some patients experience numbness after surgery.

Patients can look forward to seeing the results of a brow lift after around six weeks.

Risks

Since a brow lift is a surgical procedure, there are some risks that are associated with this treatment and having a general anaesthetic. This includes infection, allergy, pain and bleeding after surgery.

Other risks that are associated with a brow lift include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Altered scalp sensation
  • Hairline alteration

FAQs

Is there much scarring with a brow lift?

Patients can expect minimal scarring after having a brow lift. This is because the incisions are made within the hairline for a brow lift. This means that nobody can see where they are, as the hair will hide them. In addition, scars fade over time so they will be less noticeable to you before you know it.

What are realistic expectations of a brow lift?

It is important that patients have realistic expectations about what results can be achieved from brow lift surgery. Dr Perron can rejuvenate the face by repositioning the skin around the eyebrows and forehead to diminish the appearance of lines and make patients feel brighter and fresher. Drooping eyebrows can be corrected and frown lines can also be diminished for a more youthful appearance. In addition, patients sometimes combine a brow lift with other procedures for an overall facial rejuvenation. This can include eyelid surgery and a face and neck lift.
